Hyperpigmentation
Causes
Hyperpigmentation is the discolouration of the skin, resulting in the development of dark patches or spots which appear darker than the rest of the skin. Many forms of hyperpigmentation are caused by an excess production of melanin which gets worse with sun exposure. Hyperpigmentation is a broad term, encompassing melasma, acne blemishes, freckles that have turned into sun spots and skin darkening caused by eczema and psoriasis. A particular condition of hyperpigmentation that influenced by hormonal influences is known as melasma or chloasma.
